In the United States, for decades, presidents have made a habit of publishing their tax returns.
Candidate for his re-election next November, Donald Trump has always refused to comply with this exercise.
There were, it seems, good reasons for this choice.
According to a New York Times survey released on Sunday, Trump paid just $ 750 in federal taxes in 2016, the year he was elected president, as well as in 2017.
“The New York Times has obtained tax information for more than twenty years regarding Mr. Trump and the hundreds of companies that make up his group, including detailed information about his first two years in office.
This does not include his personal income tax returns for 2018 or 2019, ”says the newspaper, which promises new revelations in the coming days.
A "totally false" story, according to Trump
According to the New York daily, Trump "has not paid income tax at all in ten of the previous fifteen years, largely because he has reported more losses of money than gains" .
Asked by the New York Times, Alan Garten, a lawyer for the Trump Organization, replied that "most, if not all, of the facts reported are inaccurate."
"This story is totally false," ruled the US president at a press conference, barely an hour after the publication of the Times article.
