It is one of the largest contaminated sites in Bavaria, it is around 200,000 square meters of land in the middle of Kirchseeon - a contaminated wasteland for decades.
Now something should finally happen.

In an application to District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß (CSU), the parties demand that a round table be set up at which, in addition to the District Administrator, all parliamentary groups of the Kirchseeon municipal council, the municipal administration and specialist authorities should take a seat.
"The aim of the consultations should be to discuss, plan and coordinate further measures on the former railway sleeper factory," says the application.
For the Greens and Free Voters, it is important to preserve the two listed buildings on the site (water tower and former canteen building), which have been rotting for years, the ecological preservation of the plants and animals on the fallow land that are worth protecting, the assessment of contamination and other measures as well as energy generation through photovoltaics and cold local heating through the water of the pumping station.
Wooden railway sleepers were once impregnated on the site, which is now owned by EFFE GmbH (Fiat subsidiary) and the railway.
In the process, highly toxic solutions found their way underground, where they still exist today.
Bahn has a renovation contract with the district office
As a result of a court ruling, the railway concluded a renovation contract with the Ebersberg district office and "cleans" the groundwater from the toxins it contains.
The railway was obliged to set up a pumping station and to build measuring points at various points on the site, in particular to be able to check the sustainability of the cleaning measures for the groundwater.
The cleaning of the groundwater is constantly being checked by the Rosenheim Water Management Authority, the application continues, which is signed by the two faction leaders Waltraud Gruber (Greens) and Wilfried Seidelmann (Free Voters).
Many attempts have failed in 30 years
Individual attempts to fully or partially exploit or use the site have repeatedly failed over the past 30 years.
One major reason: the risk for potential investors, which is difficult to assess, resulting from being down-to-earth.
On the other hand, the northern part of the former sleeper works was used in particular in the 1960s, although one of the former “draining systems” of the railway sleeper works was located here.

As the Kirchseeon Green Councilor Bernhard Buckl says, the property owner EFFE has denied local politicians participation in the event.
"It seems that EFFE GmbH is not yet ready to enter into a dialogue with all political representatives in the Ebersberg district," says Buckl.
According to him, only representatives of the State Office for Monument Preservation, the Department of Monument Protection in the District Office and the district home keepers are present during the visit.
Buckl demands that a protocol be drawn up that is available to all decision-makers.
