Xu Shuchang, a government anti-epidemic expert and chair professor of the Department of Respiratory System at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, pointed out that six countries in the southern hemisphere, including Australia, Argentina, and Chile, which were in the flu season during the same period in the past, have recently recorded "zero flu". He quoted recent flu data in the southern hemisphere showing that Australia, Argentina, Chile and other six countries have recently recorded "zero flu", which is far from the data of flu outbreaks in previous years.

If government and personal epidemic prevention measures continue
Xu Shuchang believes that the decline in influenza cases is related to the epidemic prevention measures. The rate of wearing masks in Western countries is generally lower than that in Hong Kong, but social distancing measures are still in effect, which will help reduce the infection rate.
If Hong Kong still maintains social distancing measures in the upcoming winter flu season, and most people wear masks and take good personal hygiene, Xu Shuchang estimates that the chance of flu and the new crown "pinching" is unlikely.
However, he suggested that high-risk groups such as the elderly and school children should be vaccinated successively from October as in previous years. Once someone in the community relaxes and causes an outbreak, it can still protect the high-risk groups to reduce the chance of infection.
Zhang Zhujun, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health, said at the epidemic press conference that influenza and new coronavirus pneumonia are respiratory infectious diseases.
