Hans Ketelhut, the “Bayernhans” from Geretsried, has been an integral part of the Stiftl festival tent for 16 years.

But this year there is no Oktoberfest - musically, the 70-year-old is still busy.

Geretsried

- For solo entertainer Hans Ketelhut, the Bayernhans, the Oktoberfest is something of a second home.

For 16 years he has been spreading joy among the celebrating visitors every day during the Oktoberfest in the Stiftl festival tent with Gstanzln, music and jokes.

This early autumn he spends the afternoons in Geretsried for the first time in a long time.

“You get withdrawal symptoms without going to the Oktoberfest,” he says.

"The flair that this festival has" is what the city council's cultural advisor misses most.

Instead of at the Oktoberfest, Ketelhut plays in retirement homes

Musically, Bayernhans is still busy.

He played in retirement homes in the open air, "to give something to people".

On the actual cut-off date, the 70-year-old appeared in three taverns at Munich Cathedral.

And in the coming days and weeks he will be out and about as part of the Wiesn replacement program of some hosts in the Munich area.

He has already been to Straßlach and Tegernsee.

“It's something completely different - but it was a good mood,” he says.

"Has scho basst."

He has removed mood makers from his repertory

Oktoberfest fans get at least a little in the Wiesn mood at Hendl und Maß with hearty music, "but that's not a real substitute," says Ketelhut.

With light music he put people in a good mood, but he removed the mood for swinging and dancing for the performances from his repertoire.

"It should be a cozy squatting and not a 'Mallorca Hurray'."

The sole entertainer cannot understand that stricter corona rules in Munich thwart some organizers during the Oktoberfest, of all times.

“The innkeepers have an excellent security concept.” The hotspots are not in the inns, but rather where nobody is looking and paying attention.

You can't lock everything up and then leave it like that. "

That no more than five people or two households are allowed to meet and the other restrictions would have far-reaching consequences.

The restaurateurs, the kitchen staff, artists, security staff, "all the little ones" must suffer from the "excessive" measure in Ketelhut's eyes - even though those affected are already shaken.

A few months ago, as reported in an online petition, Ketelhut demanded a basic income for creatives, artists and musicians.

“It's a really difficult time for us economically,” he said at the time.

That hasn't changed.

The solo entertainer hopes that the cultural scene will soon be kissed awake.

Maybe in small steps.

Ketelhut: “You can't lock everything up and then leave it like that.” Instead, you could “give people a little courage” with music and cheers.

Just like he's been doing best at the Oktoberfest for years.
