Students of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad for Mathematics won two silver and bronze medals and three certificates of appreciation in the International Olympiad for Mathematics (IMO), which was organized by Russia remotely over two days last week, with the participation of 622 students from 114 countries.

The Excellence and Creativity Authority stated in a statement received by SANA today that: The silver medal was won by the two students, Ali Firas Bakur from the second grade of secondary school “Aleppo” and Abdel-Karim Nabil Al-Sayed Ramadan from the third grade of secondary school “Damascus”, while the bronze medal was won by the student Hussein Hayan Khalil of the second grade of secondary school. Tartous.

As for the certificates of appreciation, they were obtained by all of the students, Alaeddin Median Ahmed, from the second grade of secondary school, from “Aleppo”, Muhammad Fu’ad Ziyad, who is from the third grade of high school “Aleppo”, and Khalil Khair al-Din Tarsha al-Kurdi from the third grade of high school “Aleppo”.

The commission pointed out that this is the largest outcome of the awards at the global level for the Olympiad students, as Syria advanced in the world ranking of mathematics from 55th to 47th.

The World Mathematics Olympiad, which took place on the twenty-first and twenty-second of this month, included two rounds of exams, each lasting four and a half hours, and included a set of high-level issues in mathematics, where the required technical measures were taken by the organizing committee of the Olympiad in Russia, including Live video filming of students taking exams from the designated center in Damascus.
