Arrived without landmarks on clay, Gaël Monfils inherited a draw far from favorable for his entry into the competition at Roland Garros against Kazakhe Alexander Bublik.
On the Suzanne-Lenglen court, the Parisian also had a glimpse of the talent of his unpredictable opponent, capable of watering the court with unforced errors in mess but also of signing sublime shots with a big risk-taking.
Lob between the legs
Led 0-3 on his serve in the first set, the giant (1.98 m) from the East sent an ingenious cushioned ball that “the Monf '” skillfully put back in depth by going up to the net.
At the end of the race, Bublik attempted an improbable lob between the legs which completely left the Frenchman in place.
A handsome player, the Frenchman wanted to congratulate his vis-à-vis by raising his thumb.
