The 3,000 counting terminals installed in the streets show a decrease in traffic this Sunday for Car Free Day. But u

As expected, it rained.

In Paris, the 5th edition of the Car-Free Day, this Sunday, will have been shunned by walkers.

If we believe the readings of the sensors available to the town hall of Paris, the number of cyclists moving in the capital has fallen by half compared to the previous Sunday.

In addition to these brand new sensors, the town hall also has a historic network of nearly 3,000 metering terminals located in the streets.

These are mainly intended to record car traffic.

However, on average, according to the surveys carried out this Sunday, 542 vehicles drove every hour on the black cables stretched along the roadway.

The previous Sunday, there were 643, a drop of only 15%.

An impact that is difficult to measure on air quality

The impact on the air quality of this day is, for its part, more difficult to measure.

The strong heat at the beginning of September and the return to school of many Parisians will certainly have resulted in increased air pollution in the capital.

This dropped drastically from September 23, when the weather conditions began to deteriorate.

Since then, we breathe well in the streets of Paris.

On Sunday, fine particles were slightly more numerous than the day before.

Nitrogen dioxides continued to decline that began on September 24.

For once, if the impact of atmospheric conditions on the lungs of Parisians is proven, that of Car Free Day is less so.

Especially since the lack of information or signage, noted by many motorists, will have had the effect of creating many traffic jams at the gates of Paris, as reported by Sytadin, the Parisian traffic observatory.
