A new resident of the Gloriande nursing home in Séverac d'Aveyron has died, bringing the number of deaths due to Covid-19 in this establishment to 17 since the discovery of the first case at the beginning of September, the Regional Agency for health (ARS) of Occitanie.

The deceased resident was "
at the end of his life,
" the head of the ARS in Aveyron, Benjamin Arnal, told AFP.
In early September, symptoms of the disease appeared in several residents and employees and the tests, carried out the following days, had revealed a massive infection.
Only sixteen occupants, among the 75 of the establishment, were not infected with the virus. Most of them were placed in a “
protected unit
” and caregivers from the region came to reinforce the Gloriande nursing home system. Since the start of the epidemic in France, around a third of deaths linked to Covid have occurred in nursing homes.
