The Weilheim rescue control center passes on the following information to you: A mountain biker is stuck between Schöttlkarspitze and Feldern on the ridge at an altitude of around 2000 meters.
Operations manager Alois Mayr contacts the person seeking help directly.
At the same time, the Krüner finds out that the Englishman is already
severely hypothermic
and that his situation is
very serious
.
He advises the
disoriented man
to stay where he is and despite the cold, wait for help.
The mountain rescue service finally locates the cell phone at the high-alpine point he has described.
Emergency forces in a hurry
Now we're getting one after the other.
The rescue helicopter RK 2 from Reutte / Tyrol is requested.
At the same time, the mountain rescue service asks the police helicopter squadron for a possible winch recovery.
It takes an hour for the approach.
In the meantime, five mountain rescuers set off over the Ochsenalm to the fields.
“They were fast on their way.
When the helicopter reached the injured person, they were walking close to him, ”Mayr reports, visibly impressed by the speed of the emergency services.

Half an hour later, two mountain rescuers fly with the Tyrolean helicopter crew to the Schöttlkarspitze.
There it is possible to drop the helpers in a hovering flight at a suitable place near the freezing biker.
They transport the
severely hypothermic patient with injuries to the lower leg into the helicopter
and thus out of the zero degree zone.
During a stopover at the Krüner sports field, the Englishman is cared for and then flown to the Garmisch-Partenkirchner clinic for further treatment.
After two and a half hours, the rescue mission for the 15 mountain rescue teams is successfully completed.
English shiver with cold
It is doubtful whether the downhill rider, who was inappropriately dressed for the alpine and wintry terrain, would have survived the night in the snow without their quick help.
The chief of operations is all the more satisfied.
