The journalist Luis Alonzo Almendares, 35, was killed this Sunday with three bullet wounds in the city of Comayagua, located in central Honduras, according to a spokesperson for the Honduran Security Secretariat. , Jair Meza.
According to Meza, two individuals on a motorcycle intercepted the communicator and shot him, seriously injuring him.
After the fact they fled.
Meza added that a special investigative police team is on the trail of those responsible.
One of his colleagues told CNN that Almendares carried out denunciation and investigative journalism and claimed that he had received death threats.
Almendares was transferred to the Santa Teresa Hospital in the city of Comayagua and due to the delicate state of his health he was later taken to the Tegucigalpa School Hospital, where he died, Julieth Chavarría, spokesperson for the hospital center, told CNN.
The journalist worked for Channel 58.
According to Cesario Padilla, of the Committee for Free Expression in Honduras, so far this year three media workers have been murdered: two journalists and a cameraman.
Padilla added that since 2001 to date that organization has recorded the murder of 86 communication workers between journalists, cameramen, technical personnel.
It also ensures that 90% of the cases remain unpunished.
