The US election campaign goes below the belt: President Donald Trump has repeatedly asked his rival Joe Biden to be tested for stimulating drugs.
Attacks like these are actually trying to ignore the Democrats, but this time Trump received a derisive response.
"If the president thinks that he can best present his arguments with urine, he shouldn't force himself," said campaign manager Kate Bedingfield the news portal "Politico".
Biden wanted to answer the upcoming debate with words.
Trump wasted the chance to prevent the death of 200,000 Americans as a result of the corona epidemic in the USA, said Bedingfield - and used the phrase "pissed away", which translates as "to waste", with a view to Trump's inadequate crisis management .
On Sunday, the President again called for a drug test for the first TV debate on Tuesday.
Biden's form in the debates of the Democratic Party candidates in the spring was too uneven, he claimed at a press conference in the White House.
"People say he was on performance-enhancing drugs. A lot of people said that."
When asked by a journalist who said that besides himself, Trump recommended looking on the Internet.
"I'm ready to do a drug test. I think he should, too."
Trump and Biden will meet on Wednesday night in the first of three TV debates.
Trump had already called for a test from his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton four years ago.

Meanwhile, Biden can look forward to a prominent new supporter: Hollywood star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson wants to vote for him and Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election.
"Progress requires courage, humanity, empathy, strength, kindness and respect," wrote the actor on Twitter.
He had already voted for both camps in the past - but in this "critical election" he supported the two democratic candidates.
Johnson published a seven-minute video in which he interviewed the two politicians.
He says he has never spoken out in public for a candidate until now.
But Biden and Harris have the ability to run the country.
