The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the fact that the social networking site Twitter removed the Russian Novosti Agency from the search list violates the basic democratic principles of freedom of expression and equality, and is considered an act of censorship and part of a politically motivated campaign.
Sputnik quoted the ministry as saying in a statement that the exclusion of the Novosti account from the search results by the Twitter administration is another act of censorship and discrimination against the Russian media and violates the basic democratic principles of freedom of expression and equal access to information, calling on the relevant international organizations to evaluate these measures.
The statement said that the biased actions of the American information technology company are a continuation of the politically motivated campaign launched earlier by Twitter and Facebook to place a state slogan on Russian media pages, criticizing in this context double standards.
In its statement, the Foreign Ministry said: “At the same time, such measures are not applied to the Western media, which are financed by the government .. It seems that based on an official proposal from Washington, an approach is being taken to remove the Russian media from the international media scene, calling on the Twitter administration to review the policy that restricts the right. The public has free access to information and abandon the use of undemocratic tools for unfair competition to mainstream US media with alternative sources.
This measure comes after Twitter banned RT and Sputnik accounts in the same way last August.
