The Supreme Court of Spain ruled this Monday in favor of ratifying the conviction of the Court of Justice of Catalonia against the president of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, to a year and a half of disqualification from holding public office and 30,000 euros of fine for the crime of disobedience committed by an authority or public official.
According to a statement from the high court, Torra repeatedly disobeyed in March 2019 the orders of the Central Electoral Board to remove certain symbols from public buildings dependent on the Generalitat during the process of the general elections called for April 28 of that year.

For the Junta, the symbols related to the independence movement that were displayed in public buildings under the responsibility of the Generalitat violated the neutrality required of public administrations in these processes.
During the trial in 2019, Torra acknowledged that he did not obey the order, considering that the electoral body is not hierarchically superior to him.
In addition, it considered that the Generalitat, as an institution, did not participate in those elections.
