These days we are facing one of the most serious crises in the history of the country.

Both medically, and economically and socially.

In another crisis, the Yom Kippur War caught us by surprise, unprepared.

In contrast - in this campaign we had months of grace, in which there was room to prepare for the second wave of the plague.

All the experts predicted that he would come, but nonetheless this period of time was pathetically wasted.

The justification for the existence of the "unity" government, since its establishment, was first and foremost for the struggle in Corona.

We hoped for a vigorous organization, for the brainstorming of the best experts and for a thorough consideration of their opinions.

We expected an orderly division of labor between the civilian and military authorities with the potential to deal with the scale of the problem, as well as the granting and decentralization of powers.

Had this been the case - public trust would also have been acquired, even in difficult and painful steps.

But what did our government do during this time period with 35 ministers and nine deputies?

Scrambled in ego struggles, taking pretentious credits for achievements common to every spirit, lest some credit fall into the hands of a political opponent.

The health care system has collapsed.

It was recently announced that the Home Front Command's epidemiological surveillance system will be properly prepared only on November 1.

It took months to prepare for mass tests to detect infections, and to begin recruiting appropriate teams of the necessary amount of researchers.

These are supposed to finally give reliable data on the basis of which it will be possible to make sound decisions.

We have all witnessed zigzags of prohibitions and permits within a day.

Even in the education system parents, teachers and students did not really know what would happen tomorrow, when at midnight it was still not clear what restrictions would apply that day and in which cities.

The Ministry of Health ignores, and the number of corona carriers may be lower than we thought

The health care system on the part of the doctors, the nursing staff and all the partners in the campaign, got into a war of heroism and risked their health and even their lives to heal and save.

But what is the point at which the epidemic began?

The medical system had been starving and dehydrated for decades before the virus broke out.

We are in the last places among OECD countries in the number of hospital beds in relation to the population, as well as in the number of doctors and nurses.

Our internal medicine departments are collapsing under load, reaching 150% occupancy in the winter, with many patients whose dignity has been trampled in the corridors during their difficult times.

The shortage of intensive care beds is critical.

We are often required to make terrible decisions, such as who to allocate a bed to in intensive care, with the result that the chances of living for those who have not received it are less.

To my colleagues in Western countries it sounds utterly delusional that respiratory patients are hospitalized in regular wards rather than in intensive care.

The plight of the public is not at all familiar to the detached leadership

Even the critical and well-known situation in nursing homes was not properly addressed, and it again posed a serious threat to our seniors.

The entire public health system, so vital these days, has been neglected for years.

And we have not talked about queues of months until expert tests or non-urgent surgeries, which are postponed for a year or more.

One can also cry out for the inhuman gaps in the level of accessibility to advanced health services, between the center and the geographical and social periphery.

All of these adversities are not at all familiar to our detached leadership.

They may be boring her.

What a gap there is between the heroic dedication of the medical staffs in hospitals and the community, and the indifference and detachment of our politicians.

What a poor personal example they are setting.

Instead of harnessing all the efforts and resources to fight the plague in all its aspects, they are preoccupied with political intrigue, chair games and ego.

Urgent critical decisions are repeatedly overturned by pressures from stakeholders and sectoral actors who care only about the desires of their communities.

This is done for transparent electoral considerations.

There are quite a few feelings that the main struggle is not in the danger of the corona, but in the danger of the prison of Maasiyahu.

Ego struggles and credits.

In this campaign we have lost such a significant element of the common good that without it there is no worthy society.

The situation we found ourselves in is not a transient malfunction, but a deep crisis that will affect all areas of life for extended periods of time and on its scale, it can be compared to the hardships we reached in the Yom Kippur War.

Therefore, a state commission of inquiry is needed to clarify all the failures to deal with the collapse of the public health system, and with the corona plague.

It is clear that we are in the eye of the storm and that the crisis has not yet passed.

However, the main failures are the long-standing neglect of the health care system and the poor treatment of the corona epidemic from an early stage.

This is the order of the hour.

You can start with them and arrive later in the investigation at the present failures in dealing with the corona crisis. Establishing a state commission of inquiry is a lengthy process and should begin now. This is the order of the hour - decision-makers must face with courage and honesty the vital need to understand the processes and facts.

This demand is justified and essential, both for these days and for drawing lessons for the future of the State of Israel. A brave government that cares about the well-being of the people and their future must decide on the establishment of such a committee that will investigate the conduct before and after - and this is another test of the current government.
