The Catalan elections already have a very outlined date: Sunday, February 7, 2021. The leader of the Republicans in Parliament, Sergi Sabrià, has assured that it is the most logical date, not by political calculation, but by “mathematics ”, Thus referring to the 123-day term that all the procedures established in the Presidency of the Generalitat law and the current electoral regulation add up.

The start of this mechanism to hold the elections is pending publication in the

Official State Gazette

and the

Official Gazette of the Generalitat

the cessation of Quim Torra, after his firm disqualification.

Junts per Catalunya and ERC, the partners of the Government, have already politically agreed how the interim period will be until there is a new Government and that the republican Pere Aragonès will lead.

Sabrià made reference to 7-F during an interview this Tuesday on Catalunya Ràdio.

"It is not a question of a political opinion, but of mathematics," the Republican leader has assured. Once the dismissal is published, the Presidency law establishes that the president of the Parliament has 10 days to make a round of contacts with the groups of in order to find a candidate to preside over the Generalitat. The independence movement has already assured that it will not propose any and the other formations do not add enough votes. If there is a failed investiture or Roger Torrent, leader of the Chamber, certifies that there is no possible majority, a period of two months is activated, at the end of that time, the Chamber is dissolved and 54 days are counted for the elections.

The sum of the terms does not have to be exactly Sunday, February 7, but Torrent has a small margin to be able to make the term end that day.

Usually that day of the week participation is maximized if compared to a weekday, something that interests the pro-independence parties.

However, the chosen day will have to be agreed between Junts per Catalunya and ERC, according to the agreement signed between both parties to pilot the interim period.

The two-page document includes, among other things, that the terms for calling elections set by law are respected and that the Procicat [territorial civil protection plan of Catalonia] be entrusted with a sectoral strategy for the elections, thus guaranteeing health of citizens and that no one sees their right to vote restricted.

The "extraordinary" decisions that the interim government has to make, the text explains, will be taken by "consensus" in a permanent joint body made up of six people, three from ERC (Aragonès, a representative of the parliamentary group and someone from the party) and three from Junts (a councilor, someone from the bench in the Catalan Chamber and another from the party).

There will also be an

empty seat policy

in the acts to which the president of the Generalitat, now disqualified, would have to go to “denounce the repression of the State”.

Two examples are the table where the weekly meeting of the Catalan Executive is held and the office that Quim Torra occupied.

Both parties had also agreed to hold a specific plenary session on Torra's dismissal, which has already been requested in the Catalan Chamber.
