Around 70 million euros will be invested in the construction of the new vocational school center.

The district councils got an idea of the work on site.

And had a few questions on the subject.

District

- The construction of the new vocational school center in Weilheim is without question one of the largest investments that the Weilheim-Schongau district has ever made.

There is no question that the new district councils wanted to get an idea of what the 70 million euros are being spent on.

Following this, there was definitely a need for discussion in the district committee.

Peter Erhard (CSU / Böbing) was pleased to discover that the new vocational school is heated with wood chips.

Which led him to demand that said wood chips be purchased from regional suppliers.

Which motivated the deputy district administrator Wolfgang Taffertshofer (BfL / Obersöchering) to suggest that you could ask your neighbor.

He drives out wood chips.

It quickly became clear to those present that this contract also had to be put out to tender.

Some questions came up during the tour

Markus Kunzendorf (ÖDP / Oberhausen) had several questions after the visit.

He got no answer to the question of how much concrete had been used on the construction site so far - the information could not be obtained until the beginning of the district committee meeting.

However, his question of how energy costs would develop when comparing old and new buildings caused much bigger debates.

District treasurer Norbert Merk then threw the figure of "a total of 15 million euros" into the room, which could be saved by the new building, but did not name a period in which this sum would be incurred.

Karl-Heinz Grehl (Grüne / Weilheim) explained to Kunzendorf that “new and old buildings cannot be compared at all.

New buildings have numerous technical installations that have to be assembled and operated today, but were not mandatory in old buildings. ”Grehl also welcomed the installation of a wood chip heating system -“ we currently have an incredible amount of waste wood in the region ”- and the move towards the use of renewable energies in new construction.

Another floor if necessary?

The next question that Kunzendorf asked the committee caused much more resentment: he wanted to know what the expansion options for the vocational school center were like.

"If the number of students continues to rise sharply, can we add another floor if necessary?"

That was not possible, said district treasurer Merk.

“So that the building costs do not grow beyond limits”, the last district council decided to “go up in space and not up”.

If there is a need for expansion, there are still "opportunities to expand the area in the direction of Lake Dietlhofer", assured Florian Steinbach, head of the building and property management department at the district office.

However, that was not well received by large parts of the new district councils.

Reference was made to the land consumption, which is already immense.

“We had previously favored a conversion area,” said Kreiskämmerer Merk.

But then Huawei settled there and they had to change to their current location.

More about vocational school:

The die has been cast, the jury has decided and the district committee has given its approval: Michael Jäger and Jo Schöpfer from Berlin will design the “art in architecture” at the new vocational school center in Weilheim.

The new vocational school center in Weilheim is being rescheduled during the construction phase.

The strong trend towards e-mobility makes further investments in the automotive sector necessary.

The district committee has now given the go-ahead for this.
