Defense Minister Bnei Gantz said this morning (Tuesday) that similar to the Yom Kippur War, this time too Israel was perceived as unprepared.
In a memorial service held on the 47th anniversary of the war and in memory of its victims, he compared the days of the battle to the struggle in Corona.
"These days we are facing a war on a completely different battlefield," he said.
"We have to admit honestly, this time too we were caught unprepared."
"We have starved our excellent health care system for years," the defense minister continued in a special ceremony on Mount Herzl.
"We did not respond properly and this time too - the price we pay and we will pay with a very heavy human life. But this time too we will win. We will do it when everyone joins the effort together."

"This year, these days are more terrible, reality forces us to mourn and remember differently," Ganz told families, calling for visiting the graves of their loved ones "responsibly and carefully" in accordance with the rules of distance and hygiene.
"This year, all of us, all citizens of Israel, will wrap you in prayer and love from afar, hoping for better days. We will wish the return of those who were absent from that war and pray that at least some relief will come to your pain."
Gantz went on to describe the mood in Israeli society during the war, as opposed to what prevails these days.
"I remember during that war, how we, the boys and mothers who were left in the home front, went out to help maintain the seat, how we sat in front of the radio and listened to the instructions," he said.
"Even today, many thousands go into battle - dressed in a doctor's robe, in IDF and Israeli police uniforms, with a badge of the various rescue organizations and the welfare authorities.
Everyone who is in the home front has one task today - to obey instructions and act on mutual guarantee. "
Ganz added:" Here, too, I believe, the days after the war will not be as they were before it.
The State of Israel will change, there is no choice.
We will repair the fragments and work together to rehabilitate a cohesive society. "
