The future of the Bayrischzell outdoor pool is in the hands of the citizens.

This will decide at the end of November.

An engineering office has already presented a renovation and conversion concept.

Bayrischzell

- If you look back, you can find a few surprises: 25 years ago, the local council discussed the future of the Bayrischzell warm outdoor pool as it does today.

Georg Kittenrainer came across this while reading our newspaper, namely the section Das Datum.

“The concrete is tired, the pool is no longer watertight.

The council members are discussing a redesign of the warm outdoor pool, ”it said about an issue in September 1995.

A topic that will be very topical again with the upcoming referendum on the future of Warmbad.

Engineer Johann Wach presented the study on the renovation of outdoor swimming pools to the local council.

In the meantime, he unfolded the blueprint in red, which outlined the Alpine swimming pool in its current iconic foot shape in faded pencil lines.

“In 1957, nothing was known about pool construction, but it was groundbreaking,” Wach reported.

Revolutionary for the time, the Bayrischzeller Bad was built in rammed concrete with separating joints and a considerable pool length of 50 meters, dividing the pool into swimmers and non-swimmers.

That was all 63 years ago, and as reported several times, the technology of the outdoor pool is no longer up-to-date, the system is outdated and the pool is losing water - according to Wach, worth around 80 euros a day.

Before the community closes their bathroom for economic reasons, the citizens should decide whether they want to stick to the future of the business.

In order to have facts and figures for this decision, the municipality commissioned the engineering office Wach with an inventory documentation.

Specifically, the water surface must be reduced, said Wach, "it is much too big for a 1600-inhabitant village".

440 square meters instead of 650 would be sufficient, otherwise the maintenance would be too expensive.

The planner also suggested a contemporary stainless steel pool with an overflow channel to the community, which would be embedded in the old structure.

This is divided into the areas children's (30 sqm), transition (and sports pool 100 sqm) and a diving niche (60 sqm), each of which is separated by a rounded partition.

For swimmers, Wach has four 25-meter lanes ten meters wide in the sports pool.

The water depth there is 1.80 meters.

In the children's pool, the water height is 90 centimeters at the lowest point and 1.35 meters at the deepest.

Both basins can be reached by stairs on the east side and are connected with an additional lock.

There is also a second access staircase on the opposite side.

“Nowadays, outdoor pools are heated with solar,” Wach continued.

A heat pump to raise the temperature to 26 degrees is no longer customary.

However, this also means fluctuating temperatures in the water, which can be 16 degrees in the morning and after a few days without sunshine.

According to Wachs, experience from other pools that rely on renewable energy shows: “It doesn't bother the daily morning swimmer.” To generate energy, a new technology house would also have to be located directly on the south side of the pool.

The inventory in the former pool attendant's house is no longer sufficient, Wach continues.

The expert also named a prize for the municipal redevelopment concept: “2.1 million euros.

Less is not possible. ”The Free State supports 27 percent.

For comparison: In 1995 the community had to raise a sum of four million marks for its planned swimming pool construction measures.

“A big discussion back then, too,” said Kittenrainer.

The mayor appeals to the referendum - the municipal council set the date for November 29th to vote “yes” to the council request and “no” to the citizens' initiative.

“This ensures that we deal with the matter on a permanent basis,” he emphasized and added with a view to the referendum: “It is not possible to finance the swimming pool in its entirety.

That wasn't possible 25 years ago. "
