Whether Moosburg seniors should get tavern vouchers instead of the Herbstschau chicken brand this year has now been discussed controversially. And clearly decided.

Whether Moosburg seniors should get tavern vouchers instead of the Herbstschau chicken brand this year has now been discussed controversially.

And clearly decided.

Moosburg

- It is a cherished tradition for Moosburg's older semesters: Every year the city invites all senior citizens, residents of the disabled facilities and the MS contact group to the senior afternoon at the autumn show.

In the marquee they can then pick up tokens for a beer and a chicken.

Of the 2,680 people invited last year, 2065 took the opportunity to have a nice snack.

Because no autumn show can take place this year due to Corona, senior adviser Karin Linz (CSU) had requested the city council to send out gastro vouchers worth ten euros each, which can then be redeemed in all local restaurants.

Reason: On the one hand, Moosburg's gastronomy suffered greatly from the consequences of the pandemic, at the same time it would be a "noble gesture to consider the most vulnerable group of people with a voucher in the usual way during the current crisis".

But most of the city councilors disagreed, as it turned out in the session on Monday evening in the city hall.

First of all, Mayor Josef Dollinger (FW) pointed out that although it would certainly be a noble gesture, there are even more populations affected in this pandemic.

In addition, Linz's proposal contradicts the actual meaning of the original campaign: "That the older people go out to the autumn show and spend an entertaining afternoon." In the expected budget situation, think carefully about whether a burden of around 30,000 euros is justifiable ”.

I dare to doubt whether it will get there where it makes sense.

Ludwig Kieninger, FW city council

Incidentally, according to Dollinger, it is already the case that many older people are currently afraid of going to restaurants and exposing themselves to a higher risk of infection.

Finally, the local chief referred to the administrative burden, which was "enormous".

His group colleague Ludwig Kieninger admitted that it “may be very valuable for the economy”.

But: "I dare to doubt whether it will get where it makes sense," Kieninger pointed out.

He remembers well when the city still sent the vouchers around 20 years ago.

“Most of them were redeemed by grandchildren or other people.

I was then berated several times for changing that and introducing mandatory attendance.

But more people came too. "

The campaign is a recognition of the lifetime achievement of our seniors.

Karin Linz, CSU City Councilor and Senior Advisor

Green Council Alfred Wagner found the idea basically good.

“But simply sending vouchers to all seniors according to the watering can principle, regardless of their needs, because I lack the understanding of the budget situation.” For him, the senior afternoon primarily has the social factor “that people get together”.

The money is reasonable for this.

But he could not agree to Karin Linz's proposal.

The senior consultant made another attempt to dispel the concerns in a verbal contribution: “The fact is that there are no costs for the autumn show this year.

It is also a fact that although it is a voluntary action, it has been recognized for decades as a recognition of the lifetime achievement of our seniors. ”If, as the city administration fears, it is difficult to create forgery-proof tokens, Moosburg cards can also be used as an alternative from which not only restaurateurs but also retailers would benefit.

But Linz's appeal ultimately died down in the round: their request was rejected by a clear majority.

Only three more of a total of 21 city councilors voted for their request.
