Pistachios are one of the main crops that are famous for their cultivation in the Tal Kalakh region in the western countryside of Homs, where the cultivated area this year reaches 657 hectares, and on his way to his field to harvest the crop, farmer Muhammad Nassar from the Al-Jaafarat village told a SANA reporter that this year's production was plentiful compared to last year's production, when it reached Producing a dunum of 250 kilograms of pistachios, pointing out that the green pistachio veins are used as animal fodder, either as it is or after grinding it.
For his part, among farmer Mohsen Tarisi, the prices of slave pistachios this year are encouraging compared to last year, and the price per kilogram of unpeeled pistachios ranges between 1400 and 1800 Syrian pounds for seeds, indicating that the entire production of the crop is marketed through dealers who carry out storage or marketing to the rest of the governorates.
Adnan Saeed, head of the agricultural association in the town of Akkari, called for providing fertilizers and agricultural pesticides for pistachio farmers and monitoring the effectiveness of pesticides in agricultural pharmacies.
Engineer Omar Ubaid, Head of the Tal Kalakh Agriculture Department, stated that the crop of peanuts is a basic crop in the region and is irrigated from the Tal Hosh Dam, which is grown either as a basic crop during one year or as an intensive crop after the wheat or winter vegetable season.
Obaid pointed out that the current season is good and its prices are encouraging to farmers, indicating that the cultivated area reaches 657 hectares, of which 405 hectares are basic crops and 252 hectares are intensive crops. It is expected that the current year production will reach 1642 tons.
