In a market that represents around 20 million smartphones sold in France, it is estimated that 2 million are refurbished products, or one in ten.
People appreciate being able to buy a second-hand device that has been checked and repaired instead of going broke by going for a recent model.
It is good for personal finances (20 to 50% cheaper than the new equivalent) and good for the planet, which would thus escape international transport, costly in carbon footprint, and new extractions of precious metals and of rare earths.
But here it is: a third of buyers say they are disappointed.
