The World Health Organization has confirmed that cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death worldwide, as the number of deaths from these diseases exceeds the number of deaths from any of the other causes of death.
In a statement on the occasion of World Heart Day, the organization stated that in 2015, about 17.7 million people died due to cardiovascular diseases, and this number represents 31 percent of all deaths that occurred in the world in the same year.
The organization noted that three quarters of deaths due to cardiovascular disease occur in low and middle income countries.
The organization emphasized that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by addressing risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet, obesity, physical inactivity and alcohol abuse, noting that the practice of physical activity for 30 minutes a day during the week contributes to the prevention of heart attacks and strokes as well as Focus on eating fruits and vegetables daily and limit the amount of salt a person consumes so that it is less than one teaspoon per day.
