US President Donald Trump refused to condemn during the first presidential confrontation with Joe Biden the far-right group "Proud Boys" and its ties to racist ideology.
The group was founded by British-Canadian right-wing activist Gavin McCain, one of the founders of the VICE communications network, in 2016, ahead of the presidential election.
It only accepts men into its ranks, and was defined by the FBI in 2018 as an "extremist group."
The Legal Center for the Poor South sees it as a hate organization, and the Anti-Defamation League describes the "proud boys" as misogynists, Islamophobes, transphobics and immigrant opponents.
To join the group, its members must swear: "I am proud to be a Western chauvinist. I refuse to apologize for creating the modern world."
While she insists she is not racist, and just wants to return to the "traditional Western" values, the group's worldview includes parts of the conspiracy theory of "white race extermination."
Its supporters support gun rights, oppose feminism and gender equality and hold libertarian positions on issues such as welfare.

During the confrontation, Trump was repeatedly asked by facilitator Chris Wallace whether he condemned white-racial and far-right organizations.
The Republican president turned to the "proud boys" and said, "Proud boys, stay away and be ready! But I'll tell you, someone needs to do something against Antifa and the left."
The group immediately jumped on Trump's remarks in posts she posted on the Telegram.
In one group, Trump's remarks were added to her emblem, and in another post he sent a message to the president: "Stay away and ready, sir."
The group has a history of violence against left-wing activists and protest movements.
In recent months, they have repeatedly faced demonstrations by Black Lives Matter and Antifa, and violent clashes have occasionally erupted between the parties.
Last year, two members of the group were jailed for four years after attacking left-wing activists in New York.

The members of the "Proud Boys" are identified by their uniforms that include hats with Trump's motto, "Bring America Back to Greatness," and black and yellow polo shirts from the Fred Perry Company, which recently removed the design so as not to be identified with the group.
The group's founder McCain has shunned it since she was involved in a far - right rally in Charlottesville in 2017, when a protester was killed by a white race supporter in a car bomb attack.
Trump said at the time that "there are good people on both sides."
That same year, McCains recorded a video called "Ten Things I Hate About Jews."
Most major social networks like Facebook, Twitter Instagram and YouTube prohibit the display of group content.

Trump's remarks have been sharply condemned by his Democratic rivals and racist organizations.
"There is no other way to say this: the President of the United States has refused to shake off supporters of white racial supremacy on the stage of the conflict last night," Biden tweeted today.
His deputy, Black Sen. Kamala Harris, told CNN that "I heard what everyone else heard. The president of the United States, by 2020, refuses to condemn supporters of white racial supremacy."
The director general of the Anti-Defamation League, Jonathan Greenblatt, said he was "shocked" by Trump's remarks, and Rita Katz, of the SITE extremist groups' website, said the president "once again winked at supporters of white racial superiority."
