, writing, producing and singing backing vocals.

"Fun fact: I made an alternative album while making Daydream," Carey wrote on Twitter, where he shared an excerpt from the book.

"Just to laugh, but it helped me get through some dark days."

And he went on to write: "In fact, I started to love those songs."

"I was completely committed to my character," he wrote.

“I was playing in the style of white and punk singers, which were popular at the time.

The ones who seemed to be so carefree with their feelings and their image.

"They could be angry, distraught, and messy, with old shoes, wrinkled outfits, and unruly eyebrows, while every move I made was very calculated and careful," Carey continued.

“I wanted to free myself, let go and express my misery, but I also wanted to laugh.

I really wanted to do my alter-ego band sessions, every night after Daydream.
