The seminar on “translating the term into Arabic” focused on its first day on the importance of enriching the Arabic language with scientific terms, the difficulties of translating it, and paying attention to the integrity of the Arabic language during its transmission.
At the beginning of the symposium held on the occasion of the International Day of Translation and hosted by the Al-Assad National Library, the translator, Dr. The Syrian translators, their counterparts in the world, express solidarity in the face of terrorism and call for the lifting of the unjust coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.
Dr. Thaer Zain Al-Din, Director of the Book Authority, spoke in his speech about the necessity of expanding the circles of dialogue that lead to the possession of the vocabulary and languages of the age and bridging the gap between societies, indicating that translation has become an urgent need for human activity and has helped writers to fly in the literary and creative world quickly.
The Minister of Culture, Dr. Labana Mashouh, indicated in her speech that the Arabs were not neutral translators or passive recipients during their transfer of the creativity of other languages and that through translation our science and philosophy reached the world, pointing to the need to adhere to our Arabic language and enrich it with scientific terminology because translation is the first expression of possessing knowledge and freedom from intellectual and economic dependency And technology.
The first session moderated by Dr. Zain Al-Din discussed topics related to the term and the means of its translation, where Dr. Mashouh addressed the translation of the scientific term, its basic principles and the importance of its accurate access to the Arabic language, noting the scientific terminology developed by Arab scholars as it played a major role in the progress of science in Europe and the world.
As for the topic delivered by Dr. Ratib Sukkar, he focused on the emergence of the term comparative literature, the stages it went through, and how it was translated into Arabic, pointing out that researchers came up with new terms that had a role in cross-education with the Arabic language, reviewing the difficulties encountered in translating this type of literature.
The translation of the French critical term and its relationship to the Arabic language was the title of Dr. Zubaida Al-Qadi's focus, in which she referred to the problems related to the term's relationship to the curriculum and its role in clarifying the critical approach to the reader and the importance of translating it clearly and accurately to reach the recipient without difficulties.
For his part, translator Shaher Nasr pointed out in his axis to the importance of enriching Arabic with terms and the role of language and translation institutions in unifying them in order not to present inaccurate information about the term and create forms for the recipient.
On the sidelines of the symposium, the Book Authority opened an exhibition for its translated publications during the past years, which included various topics from politics, history and economics, in addition to novels and poetry collections in various languages, with discounts reaching fifty percent.
The symposium will discuss tomorrow in adopting the linguistic heritage as a source for translation, the problem of translating the theatrical term, the difficulties of translating the term and computerizing the terms in the specialized translation service.
It is noteworthy that the symposium is organized by the Syrian General Book Authority in cooperation with the Higher Institute of Translation at Damascus University, the Arabic Language Academy, the Union of Arab Writers and Syrian Publishers, and the Damascus Center for Research and Studies (Medad).
