Sweden today (Thursday) registered 753 new infections with the corona virus, a record number in the country since the last wave that hit the country and reached its peak in June.

Sweden has so far managed to evade the onset of the second wave of coronary heart disease in other European continents such as Britain, France and Spain, and many have attributed this to the country’s different approach to dealing with the virus.

While deaths have dropped to a few cases a week, Sweden has seen a significant decline in the spread of the disease in recent weeks.

Yesterday, the country announced a series of measures, including closing restaurants and restricting events and gatherings.

The country's chief epidemiologist, Anders Tegnel, the man behind Sweden's open approach to tackling the disease, told the country's media today that the increase in the number of people infected is mainly due to outbreaks in the workplace and among young people.

"The extent of the eruption varies greatly from region to region throughout Sweden, with certain parts of the country being affected with varying degrees of severity. Stockholm again holds a very large share of corona cases in Sweden," Tagnel warned.

Last week, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Leven warned of a "return to parties and hugs" as the number of people infected in the country rises.

The model that Sweden has adopted for dealing with the virus, from the very first stages of the outbreak, has made extensive use of recommendations to the public, preventing arbitrary marches and closing jobs or recreation.

But despite praise for dealing with the disease from various sources, Sweden has paid a price of over 5,000 deaths from the virus and more than 90,000 infected.
