The soldiers who took power in Mali in August have given up on their leader being able to replace the president in the transition supposed to bring civilians back to the head of the country, according to an official document published Thursday, October 1 and organizing this transitional period.

The junta thus accedes to a primordial demand of the Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to lift the sanctions imposed on Mali on August 20, two days after the putsch which overthrew President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta.
