Recently, a mountain friend reported that the Dong O Trail, a coastal trail connecting Tung Chung and Tai O, was closed by villagers.

Today, the reporter started from Yat Tung Village, Tung Chung and walked along the Dongao Ancient Road to Sha Lo Wan Village. They found that villagers were building iron gates on the hiking trails to prevent outsiders from entering and exiting. They also set up warning signs to accuse hikers of littering. And masks, endangering the lives and property of villagers.

The Dongao Ancient Road is located on the northwest coast of Lantau Island, connecting Tung Chung and Tai O, passing through villages such as Tongtou, Shaluowan, and Shenqu, along the road you can see the airport and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

As the hiking trails of the Dongao Trail are very well-paved, although the distance is more than 10 kilometers, there are not many ups and downs. It is very popular with mountain friends. For example, today, the public holiday following the Mid-Autumn Festival, there are many tourists.

A few days ago, a mountain friend reported on the Internet that the villagers of Shaluowan Village must pass the road to close the Dongao Ancient Road.

The reporter started from Yat Tung Estate in Tung Chung this morning and went to Sha Lo Wan Village along the concrete village trail.

After reaching the mountaineering intersection of the Ngong Ping Boardwalk, someone posted a notice on the lamppost: "The road ahead is (already) sealed, and it cannot lead to Tai O!"

After passing the intersection of the Ngong Ping Plank Road, I saw a notice posted on September 30 stating that the Dongao Trail could not lead to Tai O.

On the road, I met an oncoming mountain friend. He shouted to those traveling to Tai O: "The villagers closed the mountain road, but the police did not open it." Although there were calls from the mountain friends, there were also enthusiastic people. Posted a notice, but most hikers continued to move forward.

Leaving Tongtou, the mountain trail was built along the coast, sloping up to a viewing position with a pavilion and benches; I saw someone posted a notice there asking the mountain friends who went to Tai O to turn back.

The reporter continued walking along the Dongao Ancient Road, passing by Limulus Shell Bay, climbing the mountain col, and then slowly descending.

Starting from Yidong Village, the reporter walked for about an hour and a half, and finally reached Shaluowan Village and saw the iron gate.

After walking for about an hour and a half, I reached the iron gate in Shaluowan Village and saw some mountain hikers gathering in front of the gate.

Group visitors endanger the safety of villagers

Villagers in Shaluowan Village erected a notice next to the iron gate to warn anyone outside the village not to enter. The villagers explained the reason for the road closure on an orange-red notice. They wrote: "Shaluowan Village has been closed in 2014. However, in the past few years, it has been open to Hong Kong citizens and tourists to enjoy the natural environment of Sha Lo Wan. On the contrary, Sha Lo Wan was attacked by some tourists who littered everywhere, littered masks, and occupied the hiking trails. Inferior, cyclists and hot-wheeled people run rampant on narrow footpaths, endangering the lives and property of villagers."

Shaluowan Village: Government departments are not allowed to enter

The notice from the villagers of Shaluowan Village continued: "Therefore, non-residents of Shaluowan Village are not allowed to enter the area of Shaluowan Village, otherwise they will be regarded as thieves, including all government departments and public institutions." The reporter arrived at the iron gate. At about 11:40 in the morning, more than a dozen villagers were seen sitting on the mountain trail in the gate, and at least one policeman was in front.

Later, the police seemed to walk deep into the village, and the reporter could not see them from outside the gate.

The reporter hoped that the villagers of Shaluowan Village would respond to the reasons for the road closure and how long they planned to close, but the villagers refused to respond. They asked the reporter to "ask the government, the civil affairs, and the police", and said that all they wanted to say had been written on the notice. .

By 12 noon, the villagers of Shaluowan Village stated that they would not respond and told me to leave, and the reporter had to turn back on the same route.

During the 20-minute period when the reporter was in front of the iron gate, dozens of mountain hikers arrived one after another. Among them, a male mountain friend shouted and asked the villagers when to open the road. Among them, the villagers responded, "I won't open the road in the future!" A female mountain friend wanted to talk to the villagers, but was ignored.

A more radical mountain friend planned to climb the iron gate, and the villagers who entered immediately stopped excitedly.

Some foreign hikers told reporters angrily that they would sue the villagers after falling.

Hikers are angry and disappointed

There are dense forests on both sides of the iron gate, and there are no other mountain trails on the map that can easily and conveniently bypass Shaluowan Village to Tai O. Therefore, the hikers who reach the gate may be disappointed. Some said, "Everyone. When I get here, I have to look back. I’m very disappointed.” Or angry. Some people even say that they want to "burn the village." But more people are helpless, take a picture before the gate and turn around. go away.

In fact, in addition to Shaluowan Village, the previous Tentou Villages all built iron gates on the Dongao Ancient Road, but the villagers did not lock the gates.

However, in Tentou Village, posters were hung in a number of conspicuous places, requiring those passing by to wear masks.

According to the reporter, some mountain friends really put on masks before entering the village before the gate, but some ignored them and entered the village "without a cover".
