UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres again called on Friday 2 October for "
an immediate end to hostilities
" in Nagorny Karabakh where the fighting is redoubling.
In a statement, he "
deeply regrets that the parties are continuing their military operations despite the strong and repeated calls from the international community (...) to cease fire
".

“
There is no military solution to this conflict,
” he underlined in his statement.
“
Continuing hostilities will only increase human suffering.
Dialogue is the only way to achieve a lasting resolution of the conflict,
”he adds.
Antonio Guterres "
calls on all parties to respect human rights and international law
" and "
reminds the leaders of both parties that civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected at all times,
" his statement concluded.
Fighting between Armenians and Azerbaijanis over Nagorno Karabakh raged on Friday with strikes on the breakaway region's capital, Baku reiterating its resolve as Yerevan opened the door to mediation.
