Day of battles in the Caucasus: The President of Azerbaijan announced today (Sunday) a significant groundbreaking of the Azeri army in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, this time on the southern front.
Allegedly, the Azerbaijani army managed to enter the city of Jabril for the first time since 1992, which was abandoned by its Azeri citizens and is currently in desolation.
This is a momentum of progress of tens of kilometers within the area of the disputed region, after progress was achieved in the northern part of the country by the Azeri army yesterday, when the village of Martagis, which led to the escape of its Armenian inhabitants.
Progress was accompanied by the uproar of the disputed cities of the region, including the capital Stepankart and the nearby city of Shosha by Azeri army artillery.
The Armenian Ministry of Defense reported that four civilians were killed and ten injured in the quake during the day.
While Armenians deny Azeri progress on the fighting front, the Al-Arabiya news network reported that the Armenian government has approached the Kremlin with a request for Russian military intervention as part of the defense alliance between the two countries.
Russia, which has provided a number of statements in support of the Armenians and a call for a ceasefire, has so far refrained from providing an unequivocal statement regarding intervention in the fighting.
Meanwhile, in Azerbaijan it was claimed that an Armenian missile attack had hit the fourth largest city in the country, Mingzhbir and that the attack was aimed at a senior dam with the aim of causing a huge flood that would kill tens of thousands.
The Azerbaijani president's political adviser, Wisdom Hajib, called the attack "a barbaric attempt that stems from despair."
Armenians deny that any missiles were fired at the city.
Earlier, a missile attack was reported on the second largest city in Azerbaijan, Ganja, in which one civilian was killed and four others were injured.
Among the sites damaged in the city are the city's airport, the densely built city center and a military base on the outskirts of the city.
The bombing killed at least one civilian and injured four others.
Great damage was done to property.
Fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh region broke out last week in a major operation by the Azeri army during which missiles, suicide bombers and artillery were widely used.
