The organization of school leaders "leaders" today (Sunday) sent an urgent letter to Education Minister Yoav Galant, demanding that the number of external matriculation exams be reduced.

This, in view of the expectation of an extension of the general closure imposed to curb the spread of the corona virus, and with it the continuation of distance learning.

The organization was required to hold only three matriculation exams - in mathematics, English and mother tongue, Hebrew or Arabic.

This, while reducing the amount of material studied in these subjects, while the rest of the matriculation exams will be taken in internal exams.

"Given the circumstances of the emergency, a number of external matriculation exams are not possible. We will not be able to guarantee proper preparation for the given set-up," Minister Galant was quoted as saying.

"As leaders of schools and professionals in the field, we have reached the inevitable conclusion that the number of matriculation exams is required to be set at three: English mathematics and language. The rest of the exams will be held in a school format, while ensuring administrative autonomy for institutions."

The organization warned: "Winter matriculation is upon us, and an urgent and immediate decision is required."
