Gerardo and his family have not slept since Saturday, neither in their house nor in any other.

Fear, nerves and hypotheses of what could have been do not let them rest.

They also opened the bakery "La Central", which is a permanent entrance and exit of residents asking how they are, bringing support and saying "that

is not possible anymore

."

The Caivanos left home because they are afraid.

They, but also their neighbors and the other merchants on the block who this Saturday witnessed the violence.

"Nothing can be explained, or emotion, nothing, I don't remember. I don't even want to take my children out to the sidewalk.

I'm sorry for what I did, I'm not a murderer, I'm a laborer, I didn't go out to kill

, I went out to put the truck away. I grabbed the gun and then threw it away, it was my life or his, I am not God to decide, "Gerardo (36) told the television channels at the door of his business, next door. from Vanesa, his wife.

The couple has three children and on Sunday, when the videos of the fury went viral, they received threats that began to circulate on social networks.

The next door neighbor, on Ventura Yanzi Street at 2200, kept vigil, all night, above the roof, to take care of them even if they were not there.

"He was talking to me, he came to say hello because he opened in the afternoon and began to wash the truck. After a while we began to hear the shots, I was putting away merchandise and I didn't want to go out. But now those who were there are afraid. show up around here, "says Luciano, a neighbor on the block.

It was around 6 pm that Gerardo finished washing the Volkswagen Amarok pickup at the door of his bakery.

Sitting in the passenger seat was his 14-year-old son, wearing a seatbelt.

Standing very close was his daughter, 18, who came out to show him some sneakers.

"They were seconds", they remember.

"I didn't see them coming, I don't even know where they appeared," Gerardo describes the thieves.

There were four - they say - and they targeted all of them.

"I went out with my hands up, all I asked was for my son to come down and I don't know how I struggled, I don't know where I got the courage.

I'm scared, I'm working locked up, I couldn't sleep last night

, I have to be sitting in a chair sleeping in the bakery, my son is sick, my oldest daughter sees me and cries, we all cry, it's a shitty situation, "he said, frantic.

"I did not intend to kill him, or to shoot, it is a difficult situation to explain. The weapon that was on top of the truck was not mine, I have no weapons, I do not handle weapons, it is from the jets, not mine," he justifies.

It is that the Police speak of a 32 caliber revolver, which would have been the one carried by the arrested teenager and which was the one that Gerardo managed to snatch to kill one of the thieves, identified as Nahuel, 16 years old.

A replica appeared next to the body, with which, they say, he had threatened Gerardo.

But 9mm shells appeared at the scene and it is unclear where they came from.

Almost nothing of the shooting sequence is clear and, for the moment, the only version that circulates is that of the baker and that of some neighbors who say that "the two who ran away were shooting to either side."

Neither judicial nor police sources gave details of the expertise and the only thing confirmed is that the truck had

seven bullet wounds

and that another two were embedded in a neighboring premises.

The violence did not stop there: "Now it is like that, eye for a and tooth for a tooth. But

the anger has passed and the fear remains,

" said a neighbor who saw the sequence.

It is that as soon as the shots sounded, other neighbors, employees and other merchants began to leave from the businesses who saw Gerardo desperate.

It was there that they caught a second teenager, who this Monday afternoon was testifying by video call from a juvenile institute.

Meanwhile, they were doing an autopsy on Nahuel's body.

The investigation was left in the hands of the prosecutor Emilio Spatafora, of the La Matanza Juvenile Responsibility Penal Court, who now has the focus on determining whether the version provided by the baker is "consistent with the evidence collected."

Ballistics expertise and the collection of traces at the crime scene will be key to this.

"Due to the events of public knowledge and the resignation of the staff, we are forced to close," the Dymat refrigerator posted on a poster.

Is that when they caught one of the thieves who attacked Gerardo, they beat him together.

They were filmed kicking him on the ground, grabbing him by the hair, punching him.

They did not lynch him because the patrol car arrived and took him into custody.

Those images also earned them some

threats to the rest of those who participated in the beating

.

Two of the shots that still do not know where they came from hit the refrigerator window, were embedded in the cold room, while the premises were full of customers and staff.

A baker took the gun from a 16-year-old robber and shot him dead.

"They are afraid to return because you can see them in the videos, they were there and it was also dangerous even for those who stayed inside: the carnage was full. They could have killed anyone because shots were flying everywhere", comments Javier, another neighbor .

"The neighbors began to send me messages telling me that on Facebook they were posting that they were going to come and '

blow up

' the house. I did not see them, they deleted them, but they told me to leave because

they were going to set fire to the bakery

. I have I have to open, I have to work because we make a living from this, "Vanesa says to

Clarín

before leaving" running "to the police station.

Investigation sources confirmed that five people participated in the event.

Four reportedly approached Gerardo and his children.

Another waited in a car 100 meters from the premises and helped two of the fugitives escape.

Soledad, Vanesa's sister, crosses her arms and lets out: "At 7:00 p.m. we are going to march because this can't go on like this. Look at the window, on Friday there was another protest to demand justice for another neighbor who was murdered in a robbery here. a few blocks away. And the next day it was happening to us. Until when? "
