The applicants stand in line for the free shop in Unterföhringen train station.

The community itself is surprised by the great demand.

Is there a new cafe?

  • There are many applicants for the vacant shop in Unterföhring station.

  • The “Unterföhring Miteinand” cooperative would like to open an unpackaged shop with an organic café.

  • But Ali Cakli, leaseholder of the Post-Cafe in the train station, urgently needs more space.

Unterföhring

- A shop in Unterföhring station has been empty since January, since Feringa's bakery quit.

Now the community has advertised the business space for a “retail shop with a small snack bar” - and is surprised at how much mail has come.

"The number of interested parties is in the double-digit range."

Two contenders have made their interest public

Two contenders have already made their interest public.

On the one hand the new cooperative “Unterföhring Miteinand”.

The members - there are already 70 comrades so far - want to open an unpackaged shop with an organic regional café and have outlined their concept in an application folder.

The location in the train station between the commercial area and residential area would be ideal.

In addition, the VHS music school across the street opened a year ago.

"Unterföhring Miteinand" wants an unpackaged shop with a cafe

"There are people who are already applying to work part-time," says board member Laura Schüle.

The comrades want to cook and sell healthy food.

The food can be consumed in the café or in reusable packaging.

In addition, there should be food for basic needs, flour, pasta or oat flakes, but also detergents or soap.

The customers bring a container with them and have the desired amount filled.

“Unpacked Unterförhing” should be the name of the store.

Postcaafe leaseholder Ali Cakil needs more space for parcels

Another applicant for the 110 square meter area has been in contact with the town hall for four years.

Ali Cakil needs more space.

He has leased a shop unit in the train station since 2009 and runs the Föhringer Postcafé, which is a café, bakery and post office.

But he lacks storage space for the parcels that are posted and picked up.

Especially at Christmas time, when many people order gifts online, towers of parcels pile up.

“Even during the Corona period, a lot was ordered online,” says Cakil.

Because of the hygiene rules, postal customers are already standing in lines in front of the store.

“How should it be in winter,” he asks, “when Corona and Christmas coincide?

Then the queues are even longer. "

The local council will decide at the end of October

Three years ago the local council decided unanimously to remedy the situation.

They wanted to give the post office more space in the station and expand Cakil's shop.

One architect estimated the renovation costs at 500,000 to 800,000 euros.

The planning has not yet been pursued further.

In January, Cakil saw the chance to lease the vacant shop next door.

He presented his concept to the local council.

But then it was said that one was obliged to rewrite the area.

Cakil can apply.

He has now done that and submitted his concept: He would like to reopen a café with a lunch menu and sell small dishes such as schnitzel with potato salad.

In the post office he would have enough space for parcels.

It is not known who the other applicants are.

The municipal council is expected to select an applicant in a closed session at the end of October.

"There are some promising applications," says Lothar Kapfenberger.
