Armenia's ambassador to Israel, Armen Sambtian, said today (Monday) in an interview with the Armenian news site Factor.am that he estimates that within two or three days Israel will stop supplying weapons to Azerbaijan, against the background of the battles in Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to him, officials in the Israeli government forwarded such promises to Armenia.
"I officially received a verbal promise," he said.
"We have complaints that Israel is supplying weapons to Azerbaijan. We are trying to do everything we can to stop it - at least in the current situation where there is war. We understand that these are contracts from 2015 but now that there is war we are asking Israelis not to send the weapons. On the subject of negotiations. "

President Reuven Rivlin spoke by telephone today with his Armenian counterpart Armen Sarkizian.
The conversation took place at the request of the President of Armenia, and at its center was the dialogue and the promotion of relations between the two countries.
In the phone call, Sarkizian told Rivlin that he was concerned about Israel's arms sales to Azerbaijan, especially in light of the recent escalation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Rivlin expressed regret over the outbreak of violence between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the victims on both sides.
Senior officials involved in the talks said Rivlin had made it clear to Sarkisian that security cooperation between Israel and Azerbaijan was not directed against Armenia.
The president also told Sarkisian that he would pass on his concerns to the relevant elements in the Israeli government.
In addition, Rivlin emphasized that Israel is interested in promoting relations with Armenia, and is willing to assist on the humanitarian level.
He said the country welcomed the opening of the Armenian embassy in Israel, and hoped that the Armenian ambassador would return soon.

Armenia opened an embassy in Israel just a few weeks ago.
However, Armenia's Foreign Ministry announced last week that it was returning the ambassador to Israel for consultations, in protest of the supply of Israeli weapons to Azerbaijan during the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis.
A spokeswoman for the ministry said that "the supply of highly sophisticated and modern weapons from Israel to Azerbaijan is not acceptable, especially now in light of Azerbaijan's aggression against Armenia."
