Are cars not allowed to drive in the planned Garching new “communication zone” district?
This is what a motion from the city council aims to do.
Garching
- create living space and generate as little traffic as possible.
Norbert Fröhler (BfG) is pursuing this goal with his application for a car-free communication zone.
He is aware that his application for the new district comes late after the urban development contracts between the city and the landowner were only recently signed after tough struggles.
"But the application is not too late because it does not change anything in the urban planning key."
The guiding principle states: Reduce vehicle traffic
He has always been waiting for the “big step” with regard to a mobility concept, “because in our mission statement we agreed to reduce vehicle traffic within the urban area.” Fröhler speaks of a need to accelerate traffic calming, the expansion of pedestrian traffic. and cycle paths, the networking of all means of transport and increasing the attractiveness of local public transport.
“A car-free communication zone corresponds exactly to our model.” He therefore called for the development of a corresponding concept that should be incorporated into the development plan.
“I don't want to block or stop anything with this,” stresses Fröhler.
Use parking garages on the research campus twice
The money was agreed, the building land costs are known, every builder knows how much floor space he will get.
But questions as to whether an expensive underground car park has been built or parking spaces can be replaced and revenue generated for the city “can still be asked at the current stage”.
Also, whether parking garages are used twice on the research campus or cycle lanes are built.
“I still see a lot of potential here,” says Fröhler.
