Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the need for a ceasefire in the Nagorno Karabakh region as soon as possible. This came during a phone call with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Gihon Bayramov.
In a statement carried by Russia Today, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that “Lavrov and Bayramov held a phone call today to discuss developments in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone,” noting that Lavrov expressed his grave concern about the ongoing hostilities on the line of contact and the increase in the number of victims among the civilian population. .
Lavrov pointed out that his country will continue with the last two presidents of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, namely the United States and France, to contribute to the resumption of the negotiation process based on the basic principles of the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
The Russian side also confirmed its readiness to hold a meeting in Moscow between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, with the participation of the Minsk Group heads.
The Russian and French Foreign Ministers, Jean-Yves Le Drian, called during a phone call between them earlier today, the two parties to the conflict in the Nagorno Karabakh region for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.
