New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a decision today to close schools in nine areas of New York City, starting tomorrow, due to the widespread number of cases of Coronavirus.
And the American (CBC New York) website quoted Cuomo as saying in a statement that schools and large gatherings are of the highest priority, given that there is a high probability of mass spread of the disease among students, and therefore we decided to close schools in nine areas of the city.
Cuomo's decision came one day after New York's mayor announced that the city was ready to re-shut down non-essential schools and stores in nine neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens, where there was a significant spike in coronavirus infections two weeks ago.
The United States continues to top the list of countries in the world most affected by the virus, with 7 million 636 and 912 infections, in addition to 214611 deaths, followed by India with 6 million 623815 cases.
