European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is in isolation after participating in a meeting attended by a person who subsequently tested positive for COVID-19, she announced on Twitter.

Von der Leyen said he tested negative for the virus last week and will be tested again on Monday.

“I have been informed that I participated in a meeting last Tuesday that was attended by a person who tested positive for covid-19 yesterday.

“In accordance with current regulations, therefore, I am in isolation until tomorrow morning.

"I tested negative on Thursday and I test myself again today," he wrote on Monday.

In the Czech Republic, a state of emergency has been introduced for 30 days to help curb the accelerated growth of new COVID-19 cases.

In France, Prime Minister Jean Castex confirmed that the Paris metropolitan area will be classified as a "high alert" zone, with measures in effect from Tuesday, following an increase in the number of coronavirus cases.

A press release from the Prime Minister's office says the area has crossed all three thresholds that would place it in an alert category:

  • disease incidence rate,

  • incidence rate in older adults

  • and occupancy rate of resuscitation beds by patients with covid-19.

In the United Kingdom
