Emmanuel Carrère ousted from the second list of Goncourt 2020

2020-10-06T13:20:55.413Z

The jury narrowed its selection from fifteen to eight authors. Irène Frain, Hervé Le Tellier or Mohammed Aïssaoui, journalist at Figaro Littéraire, remain in the running.

They are now only eight.

The jury of the Goncourt Prize unveiled its second selection on Tuesday.

Seven novels were dropped from the first list, including that of the favorite, Emmanuel Carrère.

Would the controversy surrounding his story have got the better of him?

Two women are still in the running.

Irène Frain with

Un Crime sans importance

(Seuil), which appears in the second list of the Renaudot prize and those of the Interallié and the grand prix du roman de l'Académie française.

Djaïli Amadou Amal is also selected with

Les Impatientes

(Emmanuelle Collas).

Mohammed Aïssaoui is still in the race with his novel

Les Funambules

, (Gallimard).

The novel by our collaborator at

Le Figaro Littéraire

is also on the Interallié's first list.

Rightly so, according to Isabelle Spaak:

"With great empathy, Mohammed Aïssaoui then takes us on a fascinating dive among these beings who" float "for want of having been able to reclaim their genealogy", she

judges in her review of September.

The Gallimard house is a double blow since it also places Hervé Le Tellier and his novel

L'Anomalie

in this selection as on the second list of the Medici and Renaudot.

Jean-Pierre Martin and his novel

Mes Fous

(L'Olivier) as well as Camille de Toledo and

Thésée, sa vie nouvelle

(Verdier) are both in the second list of the Medici Prize.

Finally, Miguel Bonnefoy is present with his novel

Héritage

(Rivages) in the second list of Femina and the first list of the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française.

Maël Renouard appears with

The Historiographer of the Kingdom

, (Grasset), in the first list of the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française.

The third list, those of the finalists, will be unveiled on October 27 and the proclamation of the winner is expected on November 10.
