Grzegorz Stanislaw W., a 38-year-old Pole, receives the highest possible sentence in Germany, namely life imprisonment with a safety period of 15 years which makes release almost impossible.

The man, who worked at home in several cities in Germany between April 2017 and February 2018 until his arrest, was also found guilty in particular of two attempted murder and grievous bodily harm in three other cases by the court. from Munich.

The nurse, who had refused to speak during the trial, apologized at the end to the relatives of the victims and expressed his "

deep regrets

".

What I did was very brutal and still brutal,

” he said.

In the shadow of Niels Högel

The indictment originally involved six alleged murders and another was added during the trial, but in the end its implication could only be established with certainty for three deaths.

The prosecution accused him of injecting his patients with insulin, which can be fatal in the event of an overdose, in order to then be able to rob them.

Suffering from diabetes himself, he could obtain prescription insulin.

He also admitted to having been sentenced to 10 years in prison in Poland for fraud and having served a prison sentence there from 2008 to 2014. He allegedly committed thefts from an early age.

The case recalls that of Niels Högel, a former nurse suffering from "

a severe narcissistic disorder

", according to psychiatrists, sentenced in June 2019 to life imprisonment for the murder of at least 85 patients in total in two hospitals in Lower - Saxony, region of northwestern Germany.

Between 2000 and 2005, he had caused cardiac arrests in patients chosen arbitrarily to then try to resuscitate them, hoping to pass for a hero to his colleagues.

Investigators believe, however, that his death toll could exceed 200 victims, many patients having been cremated.
