Kirchnerist Alicia Castro, who served as ambassador in Caracas between 2006 and 2011, repudiated on Tuesday the decision of the national government to condemn

the violation of human rights in Venezuela.

Castro took aim against Foreign Minister Felipe Solá when he warned that "he voted for the resolution of the Lima Group condemning Venezuela with (Jair) Bolsonaro, (Iván) Duque, (Sebastián) Piñera and (Martín Viscarra), in whose countries Rights are flagrantly violated. Humans".

"Mexico voted with Venezuela," Castro said through a message that he posted on his Twitter account.

Argentina @CancilleriaARG @felipe_sola voted the Resolution of the Lima Group, condemning Venezuela, with Bolsonaro, Duque, Piñera, Viscarra, in whose countries Human Rights are flagrantly violated.

Followed, the former government official of Cristina Kirchner considered that this decision of the Alberto Fernández administration represents

"a regrettable turn in our foreign policy."

In addition to Castro, the Communist Party of Argentina expressed its discomfort at the Foreign Ministry's decision and expressed its "solidarity with the Bolivarian revolution."

The United Nations Human Rights Council approved in Geneva a resolution that extends for two years the mandate of the International Mission created in 2019 to investigate human rights violations in Venezuela, which had presented its alarming initial results at the end of September.

We reject the position of the Argentine Government on #Venezuela, we reiterate our #Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and we condemn the blockade and other unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US and the EU, to the detriment of the people of Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chávez.

The resolution, promoted by the Latin American countries that are members of the so-called Lima Group, obtained 22 votes in favor (Argentina among them), three against (Eritrea, the Philippines and Venezuela itself) and 22 abstentions, including that of Mexico, which stated his doubts about a text that he called "politicized" and unbalanced.

The mission will thus continue to investigate and

report to the UN council for two more years the abuses committed since 2014 in Venezuela

, "including extrajudicial executions, forced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, torture and other cruel and degrading treatment," according to the text.

Made up of three experts -the Portuguese Marta Valiñas, the Chilean Francisco Cox and the British Paul Seils-, the delegation presented its first report to the council on September 23, in which it denounced "violations committed as part of a line of conduct widespread and systematic, in accordance with State policies that constitute crimes against humanity ", something that generated the rejection of President Nicolás Maduro.

Subsequently, the Argentine representative to the UN, Federico Villegas, expressed Argentina's "concern" about the "human rights situation" and the "political, economic and humanitarian crisis" in Venezuela, "aggravated" by financial sanctions and the coronavirus pandemic.

Although Villegas affirmed that the Argentine government would have preferred a resolution that had "the active involvement" of Caracas to avoid a "problematic" implementation, he pointed out that the fundamental rights of Venezuelans "must prevail over other considerations."

"The draft resolution that we are discussing includes essential protection mechanisms to help improve the human rights situation in Venezuela," Villegas said to argue the vote in favor of Argentina.
