The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported today (Tuesday) that France had offered to mediate a long-term truce between Israel and Hezbollah.
The report states that messages on the matter were conveyed to both senior officials in Israel and senior Hezbollah officials, but no reference has yet been received.
According to a report in the Kuwaiti newspaper, which is based on remarks made by a senior Lebanese government source, the proposal was made by French President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Beirut after the major explosion in the port, and that the French proposal is identical to Egyptian-Hamas-mediated truce agreements.
It was also reported that the French suggested that the indirect talks between Israel and Hezbollah through their mediation should take place in parallel with the indirect negotiations between Israel and Lebanon through US mediation on the marking of land and sea borders.
