Russia and Iran have expressed their concern about the unprecedented escalation of the conflict in the Nagorno Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan, warning of the danger of terrorist interference in it.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that a telephone conversation took place today between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart, Muhammad Javad Zarif, during which the two sides expressed deep concern about the escalation of the conflict in Karabakh, as was the seriousness of the intervention of extremist terrorists from illegal armed groups from Syria. And Libya in this conflict.
The two sides stressed the need for urgent action to settle the dispute diplomatically and for an immediate ceasefire without preconditions.
For his part, Lavrov referred to the intensive Russian efforts exerted, whether through national roads or within the framework of the co-chairs of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, to bring about urgent peace in the South Caucasus.
