Irschenberg's church bells were not allowed to ring for over three years.
The reason: the tower could have been seriously damaged by the vibrations.
But soon the bell will ring again.
The bells of Irschenberg's parish church St. Johann did not ring for a long time.
Since August 2017 they are no longer allowed to swing because the church tower began to crumble.
It took until May of this year before the renovation was planned and could begin.
The work on the tower is now complete.
Special date for the premiere ring
The dismantling of the scaffolding began on Tuesday.
First, the tarpaulins were removed to protect the damp joints on the tower from further moisture.
As church caretaker Franz Nirschl reports, the church bells will ring again shortly.
The church fair Sunday, October 18, was chosen as a special date.
According to Nirschl, the church should be well filled at the festival - of course within the framework of the Corona rules.
Problems with moisture
As reported, the tufa limestone had drawn moisture, especially on the weather side in the west.
The result: the joints became soft and crumbly - stones even fell occasionally.
The parish reacted immediately when it discovered the damage in 2017 and secured the tower below with a construction fence.
In addition, a scaffold was built to protect the attacked surfaces from moisture.
That worked.
As a result, the renovation was tackled.
