Sweida-Sana
The plan to cultivate winter crops and vegetables in Sweida reached 96,667 hectares in the various regions of the governorate for the 2020-2021 agricultural season.
In a statement to the SANA Economic Bulletin, the Director of Agriculture, Eng. Ayham Hamed, explained that the plan would be distributed by 40,700 hectares for wheat crop and 20,040 hectares for barley, while the plan to cultivate food legumes reached 31,756 hectares and pastoral forage crops 3,475 hectares in addition to 696 hectares for various winter vegetables.
Hamed indicated that, based on the directives of the Ministry of Agriculture, it was proposed to increase the wheat crop cultivation plan by the Agricultural Subcommittee by 6,426 hectares, after it was 34,274 hectares, at the expense of dormant areas and according to weather conditions.
It is noteworthy that wheat and other winter crops in Sweida are cultivated in rainfed conditions, while vegetables are grown irrigated.
