Five of the indicted, including Professor Jean-Luc Coronel, are dismissed for willful violence in a meeting.

The other two, the dean of the faculty Philippe Pétel and the wife of Mr. Coronel, Patricia Margand, are for complicity in voluntary violence in meetings.

On March 22, 2018, a hooded commando armed with batons and an electric pulse pistol had expelled from an amphitheater of the law faculty students and activists who were protesting against the reform of access to the university, making 10 minor injuries.

Sentenced in 2013 by the Digne Criminal Court for violence against a vulnerable person, Jean-Luc Coronel is in a state of recidivism.

Like the six others indicted, he is under judicial supervision.

It was his wife who told investigators the presence on site of Martial Roudier, the son of the founder of the Ligue du Midi, thus making the link between these academics and the executives of the commando, many of whom are close to identity circles.

Martial Roudier has already been sentenced six times, including a four-year prison sentence for armed violence.

In the order for reference, to which AFP had access, the investigating judge specifies that the attackers used wooden pallets to "

bang on the tables (...) but also to hit recalcitrant people

".

Jean-Luc Coronel has been designated by students as the one "

who paved the way for the commando to lead it to the occupied amphitheater

".

He also allegedly "

hit some demonstrators

".

But it is “

indisputable

” that Jean-Luc Coronel also “

received blows

”, specifies the examining magistrate.

Concerning the dean of the faculty, "

the question which arises comes down to determining whether he knew that these people (...) were not police officers

" and "

whether he authorized such an intervention

".

However, it is established that Philippe Pétel, who resigned following the facts, did not strike anyone.
