Derek Chauvin, a police officer charged with murder in the trial of the death of African American George Floyd, has been released on bail.

According to court records, Chauvin has deposited a million dollars on bail.

According to the "New York Times", his lawyer initially refused to comment on the details.

In June, Judge Jeannice Reding had already set conditions for Chauvin's provisional release: If he was released, he would not be allowed to leave the state of Minnesota, not contact the Floyd family and would have to hand over firearms in his possession.

During the police operation, officer Derek Chauvin had his knee pressed into Floyd's neck for almost nine minutes - despite all requests from the 46-year-old to let him breathe.

He now has to answer for second-degree murder, according to the arrest warrant.

Up to 40 years in prison in Minnesota.

He is also charged with third-degree murder, which can result in up to 25 years in prison.

Three other officers charged

Three other officers were charged with complicity in murder.

They requested that the case be terminated on the grounds that Floyd's death was caused by exposure to medication and drugs.

According to previous plans, the process should begin in early March.

The videotaped scenes of the death of 46-year-old Floyd in Minnesota at the end of May sparked violent protests in the United States and other countries.
