The Homs Agriculture Directorate has taken all its preparations and measures to start harvesting olives for the current season, amid expectations that 114,000 tons of fruits will be produced, an increase of 39,000 tons over last year's production, as a result of the entry of fruit trees with a productive age.

Engineer Naji Saed, head of the Fruitful Trees Department in the Directorate, stated that the number of presses in existence for this season has reached 63 presses, and 45 of them are expected to work. The process of harvesting and juicing is carried out according to the set conditions that determine the proper working mechanism.

Saed explained that the price of the press is being discussed with the relevant committee, provided that a decision is made in the coming days before the press is opened on the tenth of this month, indicating that the area planted with olives this year amounted to 96,500 hectares, of which 12,500 hectares are irrigated and 84,000 hectares are Baal, while the total number of trees is 16. Million trees, including 13.7 million fruit trees.

It is noteworthy that the preliminary production estimates for the current season rose to 114 thousand tons.
