Hurricane Delta weakened in its interaction with the Yucatan Peninsula: it is now a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 136 kilometers per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
The center of the hurricane is now over the southern Gulf of Mexico and is expected to strengthen over the next 36 hours.
The official NHC forecast is that Delta will regain the strength of a major hurricane with 185 km / h winds on Thursday night.
The storm is still expected to hit Louisiana on Friday afternoon.
