Report: Qatar has submitted a formal application to purchase F-35 aircraft from the US
According to sources involved in the matter, the application for the purchase of the aircraft has been submitted by the state from the Persian Gulf in recent weeks.

Qatar has submitted a formal application to the United States for the purchase of F-35s, it was said (Wednesday) there were three people involved in the matter.
If the request is approved, it could cause tensions in US relations with Israel and Saudi Arabia.
According to sources, the application for the purchase of Lockheed Martin aircraft has been filed by the state from the Persian Gulf in recent weeks.
A State Department spokesman said that "as a matter of policy, the United States does not approve or respond to offers of procurement or security assistance until official announcement to Congress."
The Qatari embassy did not immediately respond to a report.
In order to fight Iran, the United States is helping to arm its allies in the region, including Qatar - the host of the largest U.S. military facility in the Middle East, and home to some 8,000 U.S. military servicemen and civilians employed by the Department of Defense.
